21st March 2020

To all Members both old and new.

We find ourselves in difficult times, with a large amount of uncertainty as to when normality will return.

The committee has accepted that it will be impossible to open the green in April this year. We, largely, as a group of players are socially isolating from each other, as it has been suggested by the Government, and we must respect our own and others health and safety.

The committee will monitor events on a monthly basis and will respond accordingly to any changes in government guidance and regulation. We will keep all members informed of any changes when they occur.

If it becomes possible, which seems unlikely at this time, we will open the green on the 2nd May with a drive on the 9th May. We will keep you posted.

Cheam Sports Club has, following yesterday’s instruction from the Government shut its doors. The Sports Club Executive committee has, however, agreed to maintain our green during the shutdown, which is a positive step for our club.

As you may already know both Bowls England and Bowls Surrey have suspended all competitions and matches for 2020. Sutton & District BA have likewise followed, and it would seem most league matches are unlikely to go ahead this season. It is hopeful that, provided the club is open in June that the club competitions will go ahead, so there could be some competitive bowling this season.

We would like to thank all members for paying their membership subscriptions, this has allowed us to pay our rent to the Sports Club and has led to them maintaining our green as noted above. When our committees do manage to meet, we will review how to go forward regarding payments by the membership for the 2021 season.

Lastly, we wish you all well, and sincerely hope that you all keep safe and healthy during these difficult times.

Regards

The Ladies and Men’s Committees
